  1. The Materialist view of the self ,all there is the material world. The Materialism hold that the slef is inseparable from the substance of the brain and the physiology of the body. all we have is the brain, if the brain is gone there is no self.Scientist are maping how the brain works to process information , Creating ideas ,and how we think and feel. philosopher paul Churchland says,"we need to develop a new neuroscience based vocabulary that will enable us to think and the communnicate clearly about the mind, consciusness, and human experience." He refers this as elminative materialism.

  2. I completely agree with Churchland's view of the self. I cannot buy into the concept of a soul or self without the brain and all of our cognitive abilities come from the brain. Churchland is backed by science and the materialist view of the world being made of matter has been thoroughly proven. All phenomenon are the culmination of the interaction of matter in the universe.

  3. Thomas C I have to disagree with you, the fact that the self and soul are just a function of the mind is hard for me comprehend. I agree that the mind is powerful, it enable us to process thoughts, ideas and images and helps us function. But I can’t believe that our self being is just our mind. I think there is more to ourselves being than that. I think we all have some deeper essence that defines who we are.
